Hitting that time of year where the Oscar movies start flooding out. Biographic pictures are always a sure bet, but with Battle of the Sexes looks like we are in for a whole new type of match. Biographic comedy picture about the famous male vs female tennis match in 1973 with sexiest Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell, “Despicable Me”) and young, talented Billie Jean King (Emma Stone, “La La Land”). Battle of the Sexes is a term for tennis when a male and female tennis player have an exhibition match together giving this film its rightful title. Bobby Riggs is looking to stir things up by calling out Billie Jean King in a tennis match, stating that men are better. Billie Jean King stands up for herself and for all women that women can do anything that men can do, and maybe even better. With the big blockbuster hit of Wonder Woman, it is good to see hollywood is making this film, a true story about 1 woman going against the odds of the public’s opinions, and hopefully inspiring all of us, the audience. Will Steve Carell try to score an Oscar with this picture? Can Emma Stone grab a second one right after winning the Oscar for best performance by an actress in La La Land?
Battle of the Sexes is directed by the talented duo of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faye (Little Miss Sunshine) and written by Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire). With this talent working together with such a wonderful resume of work and with two star studded leads, you should expect this move to win some points with the crowd.
